USAF COIN platforms

The US Air Force (USAF) is taking steps to finalise its acquisition plans for new light attack and light mobility aircraft optimised for counter-insurgency (COIN) missions, senior USAF acquisition officials told reporters on 27 August. The USAF will conduct an "analysis of alternatives" to determine the best development plan for a new light attack aircraft, which would be integrated in a new COIN unit and also be available for Foreign Military Sales (FMS), according to Lieutenant General Mark Shackelford, the military deputy in the service's acquisition office
