China launched a new series of ballistic missile submarines the Type 094 Jin-Class, replacing the Type 092 Xia-Class launched in 1992.
The Type 094 (also referred to as Type 09-IV, NATO reporting name: Jin class) the PLA's second-generation nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN). The Type 094 designed by CSIC’s Wuhan 2nd Ship Design Institute (also known as 719 Institute) in Wuhan, Hubei Province and built by CSIC’s Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (previously known as Bohai Shipyard) in Huludao, Liaoning Province.
Unlike the Type-092 Xia which never conducted a deterrent patrol, The Jin class is expected to be the first Chinese ballistic submarine to go on patrol outside its terrirotial waters. The Jin-Class range is estimated to be 8,000 km which brings Hawaii and Alaska in range of the Julang-2 sea launched ballistic missile.
