What I find interesting about these follow up stories, is their ability to speak in political terms about generalities that we hope can fit our picture of the idealistic world view.
I would consider these articles exercises in "Comparative politics", rather than a form of commentary; because they shy away from the perspective realities of individuals in the zone, and focus on political ideologies and political actions outside of the individual's capacity to promote action.
It is because of our affection for this kind of politics dialogue, which Politicians have us play out in the media, that we in the rest of the world are able to ignore the illegal slaughter brought on by the US/British invasion of Iraq; We continue to hope for the best.
