Russian Rosoboronexport's contract portfolio amounted to nearly 30 billion, with sales of $8 billion worth of weapons and hardware in 2006 (6.5 billion in arms exports, 1.5 billion in spare parts and military services), according to Mikhail Dmitriyev the director of Russia's Federal Military Technical Cooperation Service. Aircraft equipment accounted for 57 percent of the total, 39 percent for naval items and air defense and multi-service systems accounting for the rest of the arms exports. The largest contract in 2006 was the delivery to India of three Tu-22M3 Backfire aricraft, two anti0submarine II-38SD May planes and 13 modules for license assemble of Su-30MKI Flanker multi-role fighters. Russia's record arms sales took place despite sanctions and pressure from Washington imposed against companies cooperating with Rosoboronexport. Although this is a record year for Russia, it still ranks behind the US which sold 11.55 billion worth of weapons in 2005 (no official data for 2006). Russia also lags behind such arms dealer as France, Britain, Germany, and Israel. Israel for example exports weapons system that cost more than ordinary, while Russian-made weapons are superior, they also cost less, and do not as of yet have comparable warfare control systems.
