Haniya quits
Palestinian PM Ismail Haniya has tendered his resignation after Mahmoud Abbas and Haniya reach a deal that asks Mr Haniya to put together a new government. The hope is that the new government may end a Western financial ban that has crippled the Palestinian Authority since Hamas took office last January. However, there are still last minute obstacles to end the boycott. Mr Haniya has five weeks to put a new cabinet together and get it approved by parliament; while the US state department said Washington would not lift any sanctions until the new government was been formed and that it conforms to the demands of the international over Israel.
