February 22, Putin, warned that the world is headed in a dangerous direction with the unipolar, unidirectional, and uni-interest of the United States Washington centred approach to world affairs. Putin worries that the "world's stability is being seriously threatened by terrorism, extremism, the spread of weapons of mass destruction" while commenting that international affairs have been "encountering a dangerous disdain for international law, ambitions to use military force to achieve personal interests."
The United States have completed arrangements to place elements of its missile defense shield in central Europe, which has complicated Russian security. Putin has responded by stating that "Russian military potential remains an important part of the system of international security, and we will expand the horizons of our cooperation with foreign countries... not only with traditional allies, but with new partners,"
